They’re Back!
Join forces with celebrities and cancer charities to help raise funds and awareness to fight cancer.
@AbolishCancer created the Twitterthon over two years ago to help support the great cancer organizations that are helping to find a cure. Through this unique way of using social media, and Twitter, we have helped a variety of cancer charities by raising over $50,000 for their organization.
How A Twitterthon Works
The entire premise of @AbolishCancer is to unite a global community in the fight to end cancer. We support all cancer organizations that are “doing the right thing” in the fight to get us closer to a cure. A Twitterthon is when a sponsor agrees to pay $1 to their favorite cancer charity for every NEW follower that @AbolishCancer receives over an 18 hour period on Twitter. A sample tweet would read something like…
For every new follower of @AbolishCancer today, @JoeSponsor agrees to pay $1 to @CancerCharityA to help fight cancer.
Over the course of the 18-hour period, there will be hundreds, if not thousands, of tweets and retweets to help spread the word. And, that is the key component of the Twitterthon……. TO RAISE AWARENESS! Yes, it’s true that the sponsor could make the donation anonymously without a Twitterthon campaign but the Twitterthons help the cancer organization receive postings about their cause to let the Twitterverse know about their organization and the great things they are doing in the fight.
How Does A Sponsor Benefit?
Well, for one, the sponsor gets to support a cancer charity they believe in. Secondly, the sponsor also gets the recognition for their contribution through the abundance of tweets about them or their organization. We also provide the opportunity for organizations to post advertisements or links to their site on our home page.
How Much Does A Sponsor Pay?
Our Twitterthons run over an 18-hour period so it’s important that the donation amount by the sponsor be significant to ensure that the campaign lasts throughout the day. Our Twitterthon sponsorships run from $3,000 to any unlimited amount. Our highest donation was $10,000 in support of Dina Manzo’s ProjectLadyBug organization.
So What About Celebrity Involvement?
It’s no secret that support from celebrities and influential tweeters has been powerful in our ability to spread the word and help our campaigns go viral. @AbolishCancer has 100′s of influential tweeters and celebrities, many who will tweet and retweet about the campaign. In addition, we’ve partnered with individual celebrities that include Erin Andrews, Kendra Andrews, Michael Smith, Alyssa Milano, Jeri Ryan, and Dina Manzo to name a few.
How Does @AbolishCancer Benefit?
@AbolishCancer doesn’t get paid for the Twitterthon. We are the organizer of the campaigns that help unite communities for a common cause. @AbolishCancer receives new followers during a campaign, which helps grow our community in the fight versus cancer. We believe in the power in numbers to help make a difference.
So, How Do We Run A Twitterthon?
Well, we have a waiting list of cancer organizations we are hoping to support and we have a great relationship with celebs that would be willing to assist. What we need are sponsors. A sponsor can provide a cap for the Twitterthon donation with a minimum commitment of $3,000. At the conclusion of the Twitterthon we require the sponsor to pay the cancer organization directly within a 72-hour period. (yes, we put all this in writing for contractual purposes)
A sponsor will receive an abundance of tweets about their support throughout the day along with space on our web site for advertising. In addition, we encourage cancer organizations to contact us about becoming the beneficiary of a Twitterthon, especially if they have a sponsor lined up.
